Knitting Basics

Knitting Basics

Make a useful square/rectangle

Interested in learning to knit but not sure how to begin?  You’ll learn lots of new words (swatch, knit, purl, cast-on, cast-off, garter) and how to start and finish the most basic project.  You’ll learn how to read a simple pattern and you’ll leave with the skills to complete the project (unless you were born with super speedy knitting skills that haven’t been tapped into yet and you finish in class!).  You can then take these skills and make other useful square/rectangle things (like a scarf???)!

Limited to 5 students (16 yrs of age or older); 2 students are required for class to meet. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.

  • Level:  beginner - seriously, you do not need to have picked up knitting needles ever... we swear.
  • We provide:  everything – skein of yarn, bamboo knitting needles, pattern and you get to take it all home!
  • You bring:  yourself
  • Class length: 2 1/2 hours

Already comfortable with squares and rectangles? Watch the calendar for Knitting II - a useful triangle or Intro to Circular Knitting - the Autumn Hat

Please note this class is IN PERSON ONLY
Note that masks are required on Mondays. You may be asked to mask on other days.

Last minute cancellations

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any cancellations with less than 72 hours notice. Of course, if you can’t make a class at the last minute you can always send someone in your place.

Great class

The class had all the materials needed to get started. I do wish that we were taught how to cast (bind?) off. When I sign up for a class my hope is to learn everything needed to be able to finish the project started. I think the sampler square could've been made shorter to incorporate that aspect, or maybe the class a little longer? Other than that I had a lot of fun, the instructor really knows her stuff, and she was super helpful and had great explanations!
