Embroidery Beyond the Basics - Visible Mending

Utilizing a decorative Japanese stitching method called sashiko, traditionally used to patch and reinforce worn work clothes and domestic textiles, we will repair and beautify your clothing’s threadbare spots, holes and rips.

Limited to 4 students (16 yrs of age or older); 2 students are required for class to meet. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund. 

  • Level:  you have taken embroidery basics or sashiko and are wondering what to do with your skills. You have holes in your clothes.
  • We provide:  the expertise! samples of mending! Scissors, stabilizer, stitch instruction.
  • You bring:  yourself, one garment for mending; One piece of fabric to be used as patch for mending, large enough to cover hole and any frayed material surrounding hole (Please note: Denim should be patched with denim, wool with wool, linen with linen, etc). Sashiko thread or pearl cotton, sashiko or darning needle.
  • Class length:  2 1/2 hours
Online participants will:
  • Need to pickup supplies prior to the class session.
  • Receive a Zoom invitation link the morning of the workshop.
Note that masks are required on Mondays. You may be asked to mask on other days.

Last minute cancellations

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any cancellations with less than 72 hours notice. Of course, if you can’t make a class at the last minute you can always send someone in your place. 

Class Credits

Due to the very limited enrollment in our classes and the special nature of our workshops, classes/workshops are non-refundable. However, if you let us know at least 72 hours in advance, we will transfer you to another class of your choosing or credit your gather here account.

Class Materials

All materials are included in our 'Basics' classes.
Intermediate and advanced classes often require that you bring your own materials; please check the class description for a complete materials list.
