Free Motion Quilting

Free motion quilting is a wonderful way to integrate the actual quilting of your quilt into the design and add dimension and character to your work. Yet it seems daunting for a lot of people. Well, fear not! With this friendly intro class, you will learn the basic technical aspects and how to stitch a few of the most popular free motion quilting motifs.

Limited to 4 students (17 yrs of age or older); 2 students are required for class to meet. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.

  • Level: Advanced Beginner - you have taken a Patchwork Basics class or other quilt + patchwork class or have some quilting experience and are ready to branch out to new technique.
  • We provide: machines, tools, and expertise
  • You bring:  1 2/3 yards (60 inches) of a solid color fabric, 1 yard of cotton batting; don't forget that we off 15% off all materials for any of our classes.
  • Class length:  2.5 hours

Note that masks are required on Mondays. You may be asked to mask on other days.
*Some Sewing Classes may be scheduled for our downstairs studio. Please contact us if you would prefer not to navigate stairs and we will switch studios.

Last minute cancellations

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any cancellations with less than 72 hours notice. Of course, if you can’t make a class at the last minute you can always send someone in your place. 

Class Credits

Due to the very limited enrollment in our classes and the special nature of our workshops, classes/workshops are non-refundable. However, if you let us know at least 72 hours in advance, we will transfer you to another class of your choosing or credit your gather here account.

Please email us at with any class cancellation requests. A reply email will have your credit info attached.

Class Materials

All materials are included in our 'Basics' classes.
Intermediate and advanced classes often require that you bring your own materials; please check the class description for a complete materials list.
