Established in 2011, The National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition is the only social justice organization led by black trans people to collectively address the inequities faced in the black transgender human experience. We are currently witnessing our own government attacking the transgender and nonbinary community since 45 returned to the White House. 45 has made sweeping executive orders like banning transgender people from serving in the military, ending all federal funding or support for healthcare that aids gender transitions for people younger than 19, and stating that the government will not recognize gender identity apart from "an individual's immutable biological classification as either male or female." We need organization such as BTAC to not only advocate for policy change but have the funding to provide direct services to the many people effected by the administration.
According to research from the US Trans Survey – Report on the Experiences of Black Respondents: Black transgender people report experiencing the highest levels of discrimination of all transgender people based on the combination of anti-transgender bias with structural and individual racism.
- 20% of Black Trans People Experienced Unemployment
- 34% of Black Trans People Experienced Poor Health Care
- 38% of Black Trans People Experienced Poverty
- 42% of Black Trans People Experienced Homelessness
- 53% of Black Trans People Experienced Sexual Assault
- 67% of Black Trans People Experienced Police Brutality
Through BTAC's national advocacy center based in Carrollton, Texas and affiliate state chapters they advocate to end poverty, discrimination in all forms and its human inequities faced in health, employment, housing and education that are rooted in systemic racism, to improve the lived experience of transgender people. Their work is based in peace building, community education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs and direct services.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $96,647 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Abortion Access Front and Material Aid and Advocacy. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
