2019 We Care Wednesday: Food for Free

2019 We Care Wednesday: Food for Free

UPDATE: We raised $705 for Food for Free in January! Way to kick off the year with all kinds of good vibes. Did you miss out on our We Care Wednesday initiative? Donate directly!

Supporting non-profits that continue doing the essential work needed in our communities is important to gather here and we think it's important to the people that shop, take classes, and spend time here. This January 2019 our We Care Wednesday recipient is: Food for Free.

Food for Free was a recipient of our first year's WCW initiative. In 2018 we were a pick-up location for Red Fire Farm and at the end of each week's pick-up Food for Free would come and take the fruits and vegetables that CSA members hadn't been able to grab. We witnessed their produce rescue program first hand!

In 2019 Food for Free is hoping to increase their Family Meals program. In 2018 they provided meals to nearly a 1,000 people. And becauseover a third of Massachusetts’ public and community colleges have reported increases in students facing food insecurity and hunger, Food for Free plans to expand our Family Meals program in public colleges.
*In January 2017 we launched our We Care Wednesday initiative. By donating 5% of our sales each Wednesday, we were able to raise $9,000 for Greater Boston non-profits in 2017. In 2018 we raised $11,000 for Greater Boston non-profits. This kind of targeted weekly giving is just another way we can focus our community-based business on doing good in all the ways we can. We are proud to continue this initiative in 2019.*
