Arbor represents an exciting expansion for Brooklyn Tweed: working with new American partners, they’ve developed a DK-weight workhorse yarn, spun worsted for superior strength and stitch definition and dyed in a nuanced palette of 30 solid colors.

About the Yarn  >

Purebred Targhee sheep from Montana and South Dakota lend their distinctive fleece, a finewool with the softness of merino enhanced by longwool genetics for added durability. Jagger Brothers, an historic mill in southern Maine, spins the fiber into a round and springy 3-ply that loves to cable and shows textural stitchwork to maximum advantage. Maine Dye & Textiles, an organically certified dyeworks operating nearby, provides our custom skein-dyed palette with minimal impact on the planet.

Thanks to its worsted construction, Arbor produces a denser, sturdier fabric than Brooklyn Tweed's woolen-spun yarns. The fibers have been combed straight and carefully aligned before spinning, rather than jumbled to trap air. Garments knit from Arbor will weigh more and drape more heavily than those knit from Loft or Shelter.

Please note that the color settings on your monitor may not display yarn colors accurately. Shade cards are available for purchase, directly from Brooklyn Tweed, with free shipping within the USA.

About Targhee Wool  >

Targhee sheep from Montana and South Dakota lend us their distinctive fleece for our Arbor yarn. This fleece is a finewool, bearing the softness of its distant Merino ancestry, but with a durability enhanced by additional longwool genetics. It also has an elastic quality that, when combined with worsted-spinning as in Arbor, produces plush and dense, yet sturdy fabrics suitable for next-to-skin wear.

Care  >

WET-BLOCKING

Fill a sink or basin with cold water and submerge the fabric in water, gently squeezing out any air bubbles so that the piece can remain under water without being held there. Soak work for several minutes, allowing fabric to become completely saturated. Remove excess moisture by rolling your fabric between clean, dry towels with light pressure. Lay fabric flat and shape to air dry.

We recommend alternating skeins while knitting to distribute the color evenly.
