Part 2 of our sample "collection" of Closet Core Patterns. This is the Cielo Dress, View C/D - a shift dress with inseam pockets AND dramatic gathered long sleeves.
We made a Size 10 without alterations and it is on one of our professional dress forms with the following measurements: Bust = 37", Waist = 28.5", and Hips = 38". We used Riley Blake Rayon Challis. Rayon Challis is a fluid fabric with amazing drape which makes it fabulous for dresses that move. Riley Blake creates a plant-based fabric that is soft to the touch, machine washable, but be sure to air-dry only.
The facings are interfaced with our go-to interfacing, Shape-Flex (SF101). SF101 is a woven, fusible interfacing that provides excellent stability. The neckline won't sag during the lifetime of the garment and will withstand machine washing. Like all our samples, this is top stitched with precision using Cotton + Steel mercerized cotton thread and a Bernina edge stitching foot.
We wanted to show off some of our fashion-specific fabrics with this sample but we think a more structured Cielo in chambray could look sharp, too. Like previously mentioned in our Kalle Dress post, the instructions are thorough, with options for a simple boxy tee or basic shift, and there is lots of inspiration available on Instagram.
