We are thrilled to introduce you to a longtime customer and a seasoned crafter, Molly, who came onboard full-time at the end of July. She survived the 2019 End of Summer Sale and has been fully immersed in all things gather here for the last six weeks. Be sure to say "hello" the next time you see her - we swore that the gather here community was going to totally be worth her hour+ commute.
When did you start making things?
I've been making things pretty much my whole life. I remember my mom coming in to my kindergarten class and helping us all embroider flowers on quilt blocks. I studied photography at Mass Art and I'm sad I never opted to take any fiber classes while I was there. I really started knitting in the early 2000s, when I actually had free time.
What are you looking forward to the most about joining the gather here team?
Meeting new people who also enjoy making, seeing what they are passionate about and hearing/ learning new skills.
What's your favorite thing to make?
Clothes for my child, they sew up/knit so much faster than when I make things for myself. She enjoys picking out fabric and patterns and then we get to share the garments with friends when she out grows them.
What's your favorite tool?
I really like my singer sewing machine from the 1930s and it has a hand crank. I don't use it very often, as an electric machine is just easier.
What are you doing when you aren't making things?
I'm a mom to an amazing tiny human (and a cat), she really loves the button selection at Gather Here! I enjoy plants and gardening. I have a lot of orchids, including a 10 foot vanilla vine. (It needs to grow at least another 10 feet before it will flower). I like cooking and baking. I recently acquired a sour dough starter made from ancient Egyptian bread pot scrapings. As cheesy as it sounds I am really drawn to knitting/ creating/ cooking and thinking about how these things tie us to the past and still can connect us and form our community.
