March 2023 - We Care Wednesday

The vision for Neighborhood Birth Center (NBC) is rooted in the belief that people should have access to a full range of pregnancy care and birthing options. They believe that birth is a sacred process, and when the pregnant person is centered, the experience has the power to transform and heal individuals, families, and communities. NBC's mission is to offer comprehensive midwifery care throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period in a safe and comfortable community-based setting.

Families who are seeking a safe alternative to hospitals, can birth here, supported by midwives, doulas, and family. Centered on a midwifery model of care, NBC will also provide childbirth education, parenting classes, and other supports. Providing a safe space for labor and birth, we support physiologic birth, breastfeeding, and support families through loss as well. NBC hopes to open the center in 2024.

To date, NBC has raised over $2M towards their $3M capital campaign from individuals, foundations, and businesses. gather here hopes that this March we can help Neighborhood Birth Center, a Black-led nonprofit, come closer to reaching their capital campaign goal so they may serve as Boston’s first community birth center in 2024.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $72,918 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Movement Voter Project and Found In Translation. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
