June 2022 - We Care Wednesday

It's June and you know what that means, Happy Pride! UPDATE: Pride Month may be over but don't you stop saying "Gay!" Your Wednesday shopping raised $900 for The Network/LA Red!

gather here is proudly queer-owned and thrilled to employ a number of LGBTQ+ folx. In May we received a fundraiser donation request and we countered with, "why not be our We Care Wednesday recipient for June?" We're excited to share that The Network/LA Red, a Boston-based nonprofit that works to end partner abuse and support survivors in LGBTQ+, polyamorous, and kink communities is our June recipient. From Miriam, the grassroots fundraising coordinator for The Network/LA Red, "The funds make a huge difference and being visible in community spaces does, too. As we say, there are always survivors in the room, so it's really impactful to have information about resources visible."

You can learn more about The Network/La Red's history, founded in 1989 when a group of formerly battered lesbians came together to address domestic violence in lesbian and bisexual women’s communities in Boston and today they have a 24-Hour toll-free hotline and an innovative Housing Pathways Program, serving as a national resource and model for domestic violence service providers, batterer intervention programs, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and/or transgender organizations beginning to address partner abuse in our LGBQ/T communities.
You can make a direct donation at this link. A $50 donation covers one week of groceries for survivors.
Get involved and volunteer! TNLR served 800 survivors in just 2021. You can learn more about volunteer opportunities at this link.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $57,905 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Movement Voter Project and Found In Translation. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
