A Gift to You

In the summer of 2014 Virginia and Noah spent many long hours working on the feature film, Black Mass. The film premiered in September of 2015 and we couldn't be more proud of our work.

Our very good friend, Christine Tobin , was the film's food stylist and we asked her to share the Christmas cookie recipe. Christine baked dozens of cookies for the film's (brief) Bulger Family Christmas dinner set in the early '80's. We actually filmed that scene on a rainy, humid June day in Savin Hill. We hope you enjoy these cookies and thank you for making 2015 a truly wonderful year.

Pickering Family Christmas Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg beaten well
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups of flour

Preheat oven to 350°. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Cream butter with sugar, add egg, vanilla, and salt. Work in flour "to make stiff". Mix well. (Virginia found that placing the dough in the freezer for 15 minutes made rolling it easier.)

Roll dough thin. Cut and bake in moderate oven (don't let your oven get too hot) for about 8 minutes. Do not brown.

If you wish, prior to baking, brush with a beaten egg and dust with coarse sugar. Your cookies will sparkle.
