  • 275 yards | 23-24 microns | approx. 50 grams
  • Fingering weight
  • 100% Wyoming-grown Targhee-Columbia wool
  • Fleece Dyed in Philadelphia.
  • Woolen-Spun in New Hampshire.

As a result of its woolen-spun manufacturing process, Loft is suitable for a wonderful range of gauges:

  • 6 stitches to 1"  |  Suggested Needle: 3½ mm (US 4)
  • 7 stitches to 1"  |  Suggested Needle: 2¾ mm (US 2)
  • 8 stitches to 1"  |  Suggested Needle: 2 mm (US 0)

Fingering-weight Loft channels Targhee-Columbia wool’s airy bounce into feather-light lace, accessories, and garments. Like Shelter, Loft is a woolen-spun 2-ply yarn with delicate twist, specially designed for unique lightness of hand. It’s not a sock yarn, so treat it a little more gently when it’s on the winder and the needles. Once your garment is blocked, the stitches will cohere in a beautifully even and sturdy fabric. Lace garments should open up to reveal stitch motifs with relatively mild blocking.

About the Yarn  >

Loft has great flexibility of gauge; it can be knit on 2mm (US 0) needles for a dense and durable fabric or on 4mm (US 6) needles for ethereal open work. Two strands of Loft held together can substitute for Shelter in patterns where you’d like greater stitch definition or a marled fabric of two colors.

Please note that the color settings on your monitor may not display yarn colors accurately. Shade cards are available for purchase, directly from Brooklyn Tweed, with free shipping within the USA.

About Targhee-Columbia Wool  >

The Targhee-Columbia breed combines the softness and elasticity of finewool Targhee with the robust substance and warmth of mediumwool Columbia. This versatile mingling of wearability and durability makes Targhee-Columbia suitable for next-to-skin wear, outerwear, or heirloom pieces for the home. We source this breed for Shelter, Loft, and Quarry; the woolen construction of these yarns further enhance the fleece’s lofty and warmth-trapping characteristics.

Care  >

WET-BLOCKING

Fill a sink or basin with cold water and submerge the fabric in water, gently squeezing out any air bubbles so that the piece can remain under water without being held there. Soak work for several minutes, allowing fabric to become completely saturated. Remove excess moisture by rolling your fabric between clean, dry towels with light pressure. Lay fabric flat and shape to air dry.

We recommend alternating skeins while knitting to distribute the color evenly. Care: Hand wash, lay flat to dry.
