We Care Wednesday: Huron Veterinary Hospital

Supporting non-profits that continue doing the essential work needed in our communities is important to gather here and we think it's important to the people that shop, take classes, and spend time here. This August 2018 our We Care Wednesday recipient is: Huron Veterinary Hospital via the American Veterinary Medical Foundation.

In June, Virginia and Noah lost their 15 year old Maine Coon cat, Morpheus. Their other two cats went into mourning and for days there was howling - from the cats and the humans. Alastor, their 10 year old silver Maine Coon ate his feelings while Neo, 18 years young, paced from room to room searching for his shadow. We had been a three cat household for a decade and things just didn't feel right. In July Virginia filled out an application for an orange rescue cat that had been found in Somerville in early spring, severely injured and malnourished.

Meet Margaret. Thanks to the expert care and generosity of Huron Veterinary Hospital, Margaret underwent a successful surgery and recovered at the hospital for several months. After weeks of slowly introducing the three cats to one another, it's common to find them all spread out on the bed or lounging on the living room couch. We know that her surgery and care were provided because Huron Veterinary Hospital is owned and operated by some of the kindest people in the world. So this month we're fundraising for them because we'll always be grateful for the newest member of our family.

*In January 2017 we launched our We Care Wednesday initiative. By donating 5% of our sales each Wednesday, we were able to raise $9,000 for Greater Boston non-profits in 2017. This kind of targeted weekly giving is just another way we can focus our community-based business on doing good in all the ways we can. We are proud to continue this effort in 2018.*
