One of the many reasons we organize arts and crafts markets in Inman Square is to activate our neighborhood. Studies show that "placemaking" or "activation" benefits the entire community. In 2019 we began conversations with the company renovating 1385 Cambridge Street about the micro-storefront they had created as part of the renovation. Behind the storefront is Commonwealth Alternative Care, a yet to open retail cannabis location.
“With so much conversation happening around ‘placemaking’, we tend to use the term ‘activation’ now. Activation, or doing things that bring people to a given space, is the thing that really resonates with communities and business.”—MAX MUSICANT, PRINCIPLE, THE MUSICANT GROUP (from Activating the Main Street Approach through Placemaking)
We were able to rent the micro-storefront for the Inman Holiday Market and chose to extend the rental for a week so there could be one more "destination" in Inman Square during the last pre-Christmas weekend. We invited the artists behind the 2019 Little Shop of Cute pop-up to set up at 1385 Cambridge Street and they accepted. Three artists and craftspeople, one micro-storefront. Open Wednesday, 12/15/2021 through Sunday, 12/19/2021 from 11 AM to 6 PM!
