We're three months into 2019 Book Club and have read Michelle Obama's BECOMING, Oyinkan Braithwaite's MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER, and Roxane Gaye's HUNGER.
Coming this April, there will be open space as part of our book chat to talk about what we are reading independent of the Gather Here book group. We will dedicate the first hour of conversation for our April Pick--DREAD NATION by Justina Ireland. From there, we will spend the second half of the group some agency in selecting a read for our July book group. We hope the group can decide on one choice, together, for that month’s read that selected for you, by you. At the April meeting, we will ask you a series of questions:
- What are you reading?
- Why are you reading it? What drew you to this title?
You tell us some books you love, maybe even some books you hate, and as a group we will vote on the July 2019 choice. Be prepared to speak up passionately about a book you heard buzzing around that fits our theme of female authors, particularly with an eye towards experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ Folx.
Upcoming titles:
April: DREAD NATION by JUSTINA IRELAND
May: WASHINGTON BLACK by ESI EDUGYAN
June: FRUIT OF THE DRUNKEN TREE by INGRID ROJAS CONTRERAS
