July 2026 We Care Wednesday

July 2026 We Care Wednesday

🐾 Meow meow meow. Ha, you didn't know I could type. Neither did I.

It's a blog takeover! It's Theodore, gather here's supurrvisor. I took a 3 week vacation and really wanted to get serious about work when I returned. So I offered to pick July's We Care Wednesday and Virginia (that's my human who happens to be the HBIC of gather here) reminded me that I don't know how to read. Obviously I can't read, I am a cat! But I do watch videos.  And I saw an Instagram reel in Vee's feed, she follows Mayor Siddiqui (the mayor of Cambridge), it was cute kittens wearing cones in a kennel. Vee shared it in the gather here stories because the kittens were so cute and it turns out the City of Cambridge's Animal Control Commission had spayed the kittens and found them loving homes! And they are only able to do that work through donations to the Helen K. Holland Animal Care Trust Fund.

As a shelter cat who was born on a river bank in Western Massachusetts to a feral tortie, I absolutely love when kittens are rescued, given veterinary care, fostered by savvy cat lovers, and then adopted by loving humans. I mean, who doesn't want a happy ending??? Won't you help me raise funds for the Helen K. Holland Animal Care Trust Fund (pffft that's a lot of words to type again) so more cats can have a happy ending?

Please donate directly because you like cats! And you like me! Looking for cat-focused volunteer opportunities? We think Charles River Alleycats (CRA) is an awesome organization and they are the leading trap-neuter-return (TNR) organization in the Greater Boston Area. They have many volunteer opportunities - no experience necessary! Also, I'm not saying you have to bring cat treats (or toys) to come to gather here but absolutely no one ever brings treats anymore.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $110K to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the very local programs like Material Aid and Advocacy Program and EMA Fund to national programs like Habitat for Humanity. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
