Like many people, we mourn the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, a statesman, an activist, and a tireless volunteer. We have chosen Habitat for Humanity for our first We Care Wednesday recipient in 2025 to honor President Carter's legacy and further Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. President Carter was a champion for affordable and decent housing, he and Rosalynn Carter donated their time and leadership each year to build and improve homes with Habitat around the world.
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has served more than 62 million people around the world. Over the last three decades, the Carter Work Project has touched lives around the world by inspiring more than 108,000 volunteers across the U.S. and in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair 4,447 Habitat homes. May we all live a life of service in our communities.
Photo above from Virginia's visit to the Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta, Georgia. It's a wonderful museum and Carter's life and work is truly an inspiration. If you find yourself in Atlanta, make sure to visit.
As always, please give directly.
Get involved and volunteer. Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston has many volunteer opportunities including at their ReStore location in West Roxbury.
Donate your excess household goods and building materials to the ReStore and not only give those items a second life (or opportunity to actually be used!) but help raise funds for Habitat! You can even schedule a local pickup.
*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $96,647 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Abortion Access Front and Material Aid and Advocacy. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
