CMQG 2025 Spring Quilts on Display

CMQG 2025 Spring Quilts on Display

Every other month the quilts hanging in gather here come down and a new group hung. These quilts are on loan from members of the Cambridge Modern Quilt Guild. Over the last year we've collaborated with the guild on a variety of community projects like the 2024 Cambridge Open Studios community quilt drop-in and quilt show. And the April 12, 2025 Betsy's Friends Survivor Quilt Event hosted by Simmons Violence Prevention and Educational Outreach. And since 2018, CMQG has created and raffled a quilt to fund our youth fiber arts scholarship subsidizing dozens of young makers who attend summer and after-school sewing programs.

This April's quilts are an explosion of color and impressive piecing. And you can view the 2025 scholarship raffle quilt (titled 'Woven Sangria') designed by Charlotte Howard and created by CMQG members. Raffle tickets for the quilt are available at the Annual Inman Eats & Crafts (May 18, 2025) in Inman Square featuring local eateries AND local crafts! The raffle winner is announced at the end of the event.

For English Paper Piecing inspiration check out Rob Mathis's 'Rainbow Galaxy'. EPP's hand appliqued to background, approximately 65" x 83". Rob has been a CMQG member since 2022.

Stacy Smith's 'Cherish' quilt is another English Paper Pieced wonder. Approximately 70" x 72" and hand quilted. Stacy has been a CMQG member since 2018.

'Thinking Beyond RED' by Sarah Colby is a stunning adaptation of the historic 'Vortex Quilt' (1890-1910). The 'Vortex Quilt' was part of the 'Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red & White Quilts' exhibition. The artist is unknown. You can view the 2022 exhibition of this collection of quilts now in the International Quilt Museum's Collection virtually.
