Natasha, a volunteer at Black Cat Rescue, a local non-profit rescue group based in Somerville, reached out to us to see if we would consider Black Cat Rescue as a We Care Wednesday recipient. If you know us (and that means pretty much the entire gather here team) then you know how much we LOVE cats. Can you blame us? They are far superior animals to humans that's for sure. Did you know that black cats are only half as likely to get adopted as cats of other colors? BCR's all-volunteer network of foster homes is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless black cats and kittens by providing quality foster care while actively seeking loving, permanent adoptive homes.
Interested in volunteering? Contact Black Cat Rescue to learn about volunteering and donation opportunities. Want to foster homeless cats? Black Cat Rescue does not operate a physical animal shelter, so they can only take in a homeless cat when they have a foster home ready to provide temporary care. Ultimately we encourage you to provide financial support so BCR can continue doing essential work in the Greater Boston Community. Like caring for Lulu, the black cat pictured. Lulu was recently released from the ER and is recovering in her foster home. Lulu's ER visit and ongoing medical care have been expensive. If you're able, your contribution, no matter the size, can play a meaningful role in providing the care and support Lulu needs. As well as providing the best care possible for future cats in BCR's care.
*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $72,918 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Movement Voter Project and Found In Translation. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
