On March 31, 2026 (Trans Visibility Day) the Supreme Court of the United States ruled against Colorado's “conversion therapy” ban for gay and transgender youth. While this ruling does not technically strike down the law, it will have repercussions across the nation. In response to this ruling we have chosen the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) as our April We Care Wednesday recipient. MTPC works to ensure the wellbeing, safety, and lived equity of all trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive community members in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition is the longest-running transgender advocacy organization in the United States, MTPC is led by and created specifically for the trans community.

Some of the work they do:
- REACH provides transgender and nonbinary people in Massachusetts with financial assistance for a variety of expenses. Trans and nonbinary people experience economic inequities at some of the highest rates across the state and nationwide.
- Identity Document Assistance Network (IDA Network) provides guidance, support and financial assistance for trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive people living in New England who are seeking to update their legal name and/or gender on federal and state documents.
- G.E.A.R. (Gender Euphoria and Affirmation Resources) provides access to gender-affirming products, garments, supplies, and other resources at no cost.
- The Trans Leadership Academy focuses on providing trans and nonbinary individuals with skills, knowledge, experience, and support that they are often not afforded the privilege of gaining in traditional educational or workplace settings.
As always, we encourage folks to get involved! There are many volunteer opportunities at MTPC - from assisting with the above mentioned programs to advocacy, general volunteering (tabling and staffing events especially with Pride events coming up this summer - April 22 is Pride Volunteer Orientation), and so much more. And like many organizations, they could use financial support! Donate funds to make their work possible!
Join MTPC for their upcoming Trans Advocacy Town Hall on April 27 at 6 PM to get up to date on their work to protect and advance the rights and lived equity of trans Bay Staters and connect with trans organizers and other community members! RSVP here.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $110K to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the very local programs like Material Aid and Advocacy Program and EMA Fund to national programs like Habitat for Humanity. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
