2019 October We Care Wednesday: Cambridge Weekend Backpack Program

Supporting non-profits that continue doing the essential work needed in our communities is important to gather here and we think it's important to the people that shop, take classes, and spend time here. This October 2019 our We Care Wednesday recipient is: The Cambridge Weekend Backpack Program.

The Weekend Backpack Program sends two lunches, two breakfasts, milk and fresh fruit home to Cambridge public school students whose primary source of nutrition is the school cafeteria.

Cambridge City Councillor Alanna Mallon is the founder of the Cambridge Weekend Backpack Program. She has been committed to ensuring the children in Cambridge have the food they need to grow, learn, and succeed. She currently serves as the K-12 Strategic Lead for the local nonprofit and administrator of the backpack program, Food for Free.

*In January 2017 we launched our We Care Wednesday initiative. By donating 5% of our sales each Wednesday, we were able to raise $9,000 for Greater Boston non-profits in 2017. In 2018 we raised $11,000 for Greater Boston non-profits. This kind of targeted weekly giving is just another way we can focus our community-based business on doing good in all the ways we can. We are proud to continue this initiative in 2019.*
