2019 November We Care Wednesday: Maine Access Immigrant Network

Supporting non-profits that continue doing the essential work needed in our communities is important to gather here and we think it's important to the people that shop, take classes, and spend time here. This November 2019 our We Care Wednesday recipient is the Maine Access Immigrant Network (MAIN).

On October 23, 2019 we co-sponsored the Refugee Knit Night event with our friends at Make & Mend and Remnant Brewing. Through the generosity of our suppliers and our team we donated approximately 50 hat knitting kits for the volunteers who came to knit something for refugees experiencing their first Maine winter. We have been collecting handmade warm accessories for refugees since the event and will be sending our collection to Maine at the end of November. We'd love to send a donation as well! MAIN bridges access to health and social services for immigrants and refugees in Portland, Maine. MAIN was founded in 2002 to provide Somali refugees with necessary support and in 2014 expanded to serve other African groups, including South Sudanese, Rwandan, Burundian, and Congolese, and continues to expand with services to Middle Eastern and other refugee groups.

*In January 2017 we launched our We Care Wednesday initiative. By donating 5% of our sales each Wednesday, we were able to raise $9,000 for Greater Boston non-profits in 2017. In 2018 we raised $11,000 for Greater Boston non-profits. This kind of targeted weekly giving is just another way we can focus our community-based business on doing good in all the ways we can. We are proud to continue this initiative in 2019.*
