November We Care Wednesday

November We Care Wednesday

It’s the morning after the November 5, 2024 election and I’m struggling a bit. Not because I’m actually shocked to learn that the majority of Americans (yes, it looks like he won the popular vote) hold so much hatred and white supremacy and fear in their hearts that they would forsake democracy for fascism. [insert my woman of color shrug emoji]

That being said, we have to get up. Sure, mourn. Have a good cry - have several. Hold your loved ones close. Check on your friends who will be targeted in the incoming president’s campaigns to deport, to punish, to imprison, to wipe-out the most vulnerable, the marginalized, the change-makers.

But here I am, getting up and continuing the work. November’s We Care Wednesday recipient is Food For Free. Our pal, Trish, is a proud member of their board and has shared their important work with the community for years. A customer, Kristen, recently reached out because she works for Food For Free and asked if in this month of gratitude we’d consider choosing her employer as our November WCW fundraising recipient. Obviously, we said yes.

Food For Free kicked off their 24/25 Winter Appeal on Monday, November 4, 2024. And we can join them in growing healthy communities by highlighting the work they do and by donating 5% of our Wednesday sales throughout the month of November. Which means we need YOU to choose Wednesday as your craft supply order day. Because without your support we can’t make that much a difference. So let’s help create the foundation for a future where everyone in our community has what they need to thrive.

As always, check out Food For Free and get involved. Lots of opportunities to volunteer and learn!

Donate to Food For Free directly.

And remember, how we spend this one precious life really does matter. So go and do some good today and everyday.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $85,215 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Abortion Access Front and Material Aid and Advocacy. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
