2019 Women's History Month: Meet Ciara

If you've visited the shop in March you may have seen some new faces. In late February we added 6 part-time team members to the gather here staff. Everyone has a wealth of knowledge about at least one fiber craft (if not more) and Ciara blew us away with her crochet skills. We know you are going to want to follow her work on Instagram and we hope to exhibit her pieces at the shop, too. They are so inspiring! Check out some examples in our interview. When did you start making things?I have been making all sorts of things...

2019 Women's History Month: Meet Kendra

We wanted to highlight some of our team members that are working behind the scenes daily like our inventory manager, Kendra. Kendra joined the team soon after we moved from Broadway in Mid-Cambridge to Inman Square. We had never had a full-time inventory person and it's been such a relief to have someone on the team dealing with all our suppliers and making sure we never run out of thread or muslin (we still run out of knitting needles but that's supply not meeting demand). You may see Kendra occasionally covering the front desk or processing a special order but...

2019 Women's History Month: Meet Renée

Seven summers ago we had one of the most enthusiastic groups of young stitchers ever to attend summer camp. And one of those young women was Renée! We were so excited (and proud) when Renée approached us about possibly working at gather here in the kids program as well as in the store. Having known her since she was 9 and watching her skills grow has been one of the highlights of creating gather here (in all seriousness, we are proud of every single person who makes a tote bag, a crocheted book mark, and knit wash cloth). We hope...

Spring 2019 Book Club

We're three months into 2019 Book Club and have read Michelle Obama's BECOMING, Oyinkan Braithwaite's MY SISTER, THE SERIAL KILLER, and Roxane Gaye's HUNGER. Coming this April, there will be open space as part of our book chat to talk about what we are reading independent of the Gather Here book group. We will dedicate the first hour of conversation for our April Pick--DREAD NATION by Justina Ireland. From there, we will spend the second half of the group some agency in selecting a read for our July book group. We hope the group can decide on one choice, together,...

2019 Women's History Month: Meet Rachel S.

In February we interviewed a bunch of people in hopes of finding a range of talents with varied availability to fill some positions that had been recently vacated. We ended up finding a half dozen part-time team members to replace three full time team members which explains how we jumped up to 22 employees. We're excited to introduce you to the 2019 gh team! Meet Rachel S (we hired TWO Rachels - 1 Sews, 1 Knits!). When did you start making things? I learned to sew in 2008. I needed something to lose myself in to get through a broken...
