Why We March - Jenny

Today we're thrilled to introduce a maker who's fashion sense is always on point. And so is her small biz, Margravine.   It's a wonder all of her pussy bows haven't sold out since the election from Melania's fuschia blouse to Evan Rachel Wood's drop dead gorgeous "white tie" for the Golden Globes. It's what we love about feminism - you can love fashion and love equal rights!

Why We March - Ellen

On Friday afternoon, Virginia and Monta will be hopping into Greeley's car with today's featured marcher to begin our road trip to the Women's March on Washington. Why We March - Lestra

We know that many of us wish we could do more right now. Each day we knit. Nearly the entire gather here staff has been knitting pussy hats for those who cannot knit. These hats will be worn in solidarity on Saturday, January 21, 2017 when thousands will march in Washington DC and sister cities across the country. We plot out our resistance banners - cutting out felt letters and stitching them onto linen, homage to the suffragettes. We channel our craft skills into ways to announce our commitment to equality and hope.

We've asked members of the gather here community to share why they are marching or making something for the march. These stories are part of the daily reminder that none of us is alone. And that ultimately, we are in this together.

you belong here

Call for submissions! As many of you know, we have used the front windows of gather here to share our commitment to all people and the spirit of inclusion. In uncertain times, it's more important than ever to engage in actions that strengthen our communities. We are asking you to stitch the words "you belong here" to create a sign approximately the size of you hand (stitching can be embroidery, cross stitch, crewel, pieced, knit, crocheted, or sewn). We have created larger version of this phrase to hang up in the window on January 20, 2017. Submit your version of "you belong here" to the front desk by January 31st to be a part of this public art piece. Not local? You may mail your submission to us: gather here, 1343 cambridge st, cambridge, ma 02139.

Launching: We Care Wednesday

Post-election we asked ourselves how we might better serve our community. gather here has always been more than a boutique fiber shop and as small business owners, we are aware of how local spending can enrich the neighborhood. We have met some of the kindest and most generous people in workshops and just hanging out at the front counter. We know investing in the community is important to all of you, too.
